Breaking News: Springfield to Host State Games for Special Olympics Missouri

1/22/2025
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

Springfield Sports Commission and the Southwest Area Directors for Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) teamed up this past fall to put together a proposal for Springfield to host SOMO's State Outdoor Games in October 2025. After working together to partner with Springfield Parks Department, Central Bank, Stocker Insurance, Springfield CVB, and many other local businesses to make a great proposal for why Springfield should be the hosting city, Springfield was awarded the bid to host the Games for the next 3 years, 2025-2027! The local SOMO Directors, Haley Blevins and Jesse Williams, are very proud to be hosting State Games in Springfield and cannot wait to see how the community comes together to support the event, but more importantly, the athletes SOMO serves.

“This year’s games will be in a new city, and the athletes will get to experience top-of-the-line facilities and feel the hospitality from the city of Springfield,” said Craig Hall, SOMO Director of Competition & Outreach. “The best way to make this event a success is to volunteer to help or just come out and support our athletes.”
