Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield begins serving 5-year old's at all locations
Springfield, MO (July 18, 2022) – Beginning August 28th, 2022, Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield will welcome five-year-old members to their program. Historically, BGCS has served students six and older. Thanks to advocacy work from Club staff and dedicated community members, BGCS is now able to expand their services, reaching younger members.
“We worked hard to change this mandate because we believe it is the right thing to do. Every year, before our school year program begins, we hear from families that are desperate for help and care, said BGCS Chief Executive Officer, Brandy Harris. “We are so thankful to the people, both locally and at the State level, who helped make this happen. We are so excited to serve 5-year-olds in kindergarten now and truly hope it alleviates pressure on our community while simultaneously providing a safe, engaging, positive place for kids who need us.”
New members can begin enrolling for school year programming on July 18th.
The fee is just $95 for the entire school year and includes access to a wide range of activities supporting academic success, good character & citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.
Through the SHINE partnership with Springfield Public Schools, all students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch are also eligible for free BGCS services this school year. BGCS works to ensure members ages 5-18 have a safe place before and after school to eat a meal, enjoy several fun programs, and receive homework help.
