PAY RATE: $49,691.20 per year

This is a full-time position, approximately 40 hours per week. Candidates must be available to work any hours the library branch is open. The Library Station is open Monday through Thursday 8:30-9:00, Friday 8:30-8:00, Saturday 8:30-7:00 and Sunday 10:00-6:00. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the Library’s responsibility to the citizens of Greene County.

Position Summary
The Reference Manager oversees the reference services and resources. This role involves managing a team of reference librarians/associates, conducting user needs assessments, and coordinating the development of reference collections and tools. The Reference Manager is responsible for ensuring that patrons receive high-quality research assistance, instruction on information literacy, and access to a wide range of print and electronic resources. They also play a key role in evaluating the effectiveness of reference services, implementing new technologies, and staying abreast of emerging trends in information retrieval and access. Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills are essential for success in this position.
Essential Functions
Assumes responsibility for daily operations of the Reference Department
Acts as PIC (Person In Charge) -will be the acting building manager as assigned handling safety and security matters as they arise
Performs Reference duties
Keeps abreast with changes and developments in library services with specific emphasis on reference and online services and resources
Public speaking to community groups
Provides training for staff and public on Library resources
Serves as a member of the District Reference Committee
Plans and implements public programs and displays with department staff help
Serves as Passport Acceptance Agent when certified and oversees this service, in branches where service is offered
Participates in interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating branch reference staff
Assists branch circulation and youth services departments as needed
Assists Collection Services in implementing the collection plan for reference and the adult collection
Interprets and implements the Library’s General Conduct Policy
Consistently punctual for work and meetings. Completes assigned duties in a timely manner.
Exemplifies professional attitude and demeanor while engaging constituents, including the ability to work and interact with others in a cooperative, pleasant, and constructive manner.

Skills and Knowledge
Excellent communication skills, oral and written
Thorough knowledge of public library reference resources and services, including online resources
Computer and keyboard skills: Operates technologically advanced computer equipment, databases, fax machines, and PCs
Supervisory skills
Minimum Requirements - Education/Experience
MLS/MLIS Degree
Library experience
Supervisory experience preferred

Work closely with other branch personnel and other reference department managers, branch managers, and Associate Director for Public Services

Physical Demands
Performs bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor level to 6 feet in height
Displays good coordination and mobility
Routine lifting of library materials weighing up to 20 lbs.

Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library/office environment
