POSITION: Library Assistant (Youth Services Emphasis)
LOCATION: Republic Branch – 921 N Lindsey Avenue – Republic, MO
Classification: Part Time
Salary Track: Library Worker II
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
PAY RATE: $14.34 per hour

Three part-time positions, approximately 24 hours per week. This position will require an emphasis in Youth Services. This staff helps children, youth, and their caregivers find and use library materials and promote activities that build and strengthen literacy skills. Under the supervision of the Youth Services Department Manager, they also plan, implement, and support department programming, outreach, and develop and produce displays and activities that promote collections, services, and the mission of the library.
Candidates must be available to work any hours the library branch is open. The Republic branch is open Monday through Friday 7:30am to 7:00pm and Saturday, 9:30am to 6:00pm. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the Library’s responsibility to the citizens of Greene County. Selected candidates will begin work in Republic January 5, 2026 with orientation preceding that date at The Library Center.

This position requires high school graduation or completion of a high school equivalency program. All candidates for employment must be at least 16 years old.

Essential Functions
· Routinely checks-in, checks-out and renew library materials
· Performs circulation duties
· Registers patrons for library cards, voter registration and other library functions
· Assists patrons with directional information
· Collects overdue fines, book deposits and other fees, makes change, and issues receipts
· Performs routine computer searches, data entry
· Assists patrons with location of library materials and information
· Assists and instructs patrons in the operation of patron access computer (PAC), copy machines, printers, and fax machines
· Answers telephone and direct calls
· Responds to regular telephone inquiries
· Performs routine filing and shelving
· May prepare daily deposit of monies collected by branch
· May act as Person In Charge (PIC) in absence of branch manager
· May provide programming at the branch as needed: Storytimes, Youth and Adult programs
· Assists supervisor with department reports and correspondence as needed
· Performs essential functions during high patron volume
· Interprets and implements the Library’s General Conduct Policy
· Consistently punctual for work and meetings. Completes assigned duties in a timely manner
· Exemplifies professional attitude and demeanor while engaging constituents, including the ability to work and interact with others in a cooperative, pleasant, and constructive manner

Skills/Job Knowledge
· Excellent communications skills, oral and written
· Ability to effectively listen to and respond to patron inquiries
· Basic knowledge of circulation and library functions
· Computer and keyboard skills, including windows, word-processing and spreadsheet construction
Education/Experience
· High School diploma or equivalent
· One year public service experience required
· One year library experience is preferred
Contact
· Regular, daily public contact
· Works closely with other department personnel
· Routine telephone contact with other departments, branches, and the public
· Occasional work with other branch departments
Supervision
· Supervised by Youth Services Manager
Physical Demands
· Performs bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor level to 6 feet in height
· May stand for long periods of time
· Displays good coordination and mobility
· Routine lifting of library materials weighing up to 30 lbs
· Uninterrupted standing and walking for lengthy periods
Working Environment
· Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library environment
Miscellaneous Requirements
· Must pass a security background check
