Engineering Manager - Lebanon Facility

The Engineering Manager has the direct responsibility for controls and/or mechanical design engineering. The Engineering Manager develops and oversees the engineering departments, manpower, project schedules (hours and milestones), budgetary/fiscal requirements.  They provide technical support functions for all programs and projects as designated. Innovative, creative, cost-effective design development, implementation and departmental adherence to budgets/schedules are key performance criteria.

1. Lead and align the engineering team with the company’s vision and business goals.

2. Prioritize and delegate tasks to the team.

3. Develop, inspire, mentor, and evaluate the engineering team. Creating a positive team culture.

4. Collaborate with cross-functional peers and leaders to deliver projects, within the defined schedule and budget.

5. Improve engineering quality and efficiency.

6. Ensure DTQMS compliance for the department.

7. Implement best practices in architecture for development and design.

8. Drive technical roadmap and direction.

9. Provide technical guidance and coaching.

10. Prepare technical requirements and software design specifications.

11. Department skillset improvement.

12. Recruiting and interviews.

13. Attend meetings as required.

14. Perform design in addition to management workload demands.

15. Actively participate in quoting and concepting process.

16. Actively participate in project review.

17. Technology Trends – Maintains customer and industry contacts and relationships to ensure awareness of marketing and technical trends, customer needs, and problems as they relate to the development of customer/company specifications.  Participates in customer negotiations of significant importance.

18. Staffing/Training – Assures that departments within area of responsibility are properly staffed and trained.  Recommends use of outside consultants, contract help or outsourcing of work, when appropriate, to ensure timely completion of projects.

19. Strategic Planning – Develops the short- and long-range engineering goals and objectives to be incorporated into the overall strategic plan.

20. Performance Evaluations – Develops performance guidelines/standards for engineering staff; defines and sets departmental and individual staff goals in support of management objectives.  Evaluates staff performance in relationship to the established goals and objectives.

21. Engineering Reviews – Participates in conceptual design reviews as required.  Supports a concurrent engineering program, which creates continuity between concept, design, manufacturing, and assembly.  Directs concurrent engineering efforts, pursuing value added input from design specialists, manufacturing engineers and related staff for new, improved or more cost-effective value engineered concepts.  Reviews, with designated staff and teams, any variances from original design, preventing all unnecessary drawing/design changes.

22. Technical Support – Acts as liaison with other departments, sub-contractors and vendors in resolving problems related to design, manufacture, product acceptance for the customer from a technical standpoint, product performance, competitive cost and quality assurance; approves acceptance or rejection of materials, assigns non-conformances as requested.

23. Project Planning – Reviews and monitors all engineering budgets as related to fiscal requirements and formulates various manpower plans.  Tracks by project, hours, personnel, availability, all related costs to ensure compliance to budgetary requirements.  Assigns engineering design, program, project review and job release activity to managerial or technical staff.  Assists various engineering staff in coordination of all engineering activities, including following the concept and quote that is submitted with each project.

24. Project Management – Through engineering staff, develops preliminary schedules; guides the engineering staff in finalization of schedules within all engineering departments; assists and processes, through various staff, compliance with customer change requests.  Communicates recommended assignment of various engineering staff and team members prior to kick off meetings.  Follows through and works with the Engineering Leads to ensure accurate estimates of effort (estimates to complete/ETC) for the engineering groups in relationship to budget and schedule as required to support the Project Management tracking system.  Provides support and requested information to Project Managers and attends kick off meeting as required.

25. Processes & Procedures – Develops and formally documents, improved processes, procedures, and standards for internal departmental use, including Plus/Delta’s produced at the end of each project.  If processes impact external organization, documentation is also required in areas such geometric tolerance, stress calculation documentation, drawing standards, etc. 


Additional (non-essential) Responsibilities:

1. Performs other duties as required.

2. Demonstrate financial acumen appropriate for this position.

3. Travel to customer site as required.


Qualifications:

1. MS/BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and/or equivalent experience.

2. 10 years in engineering (special machine design, tool & die).

3. 5-10 years managing and directing mechanical and or controls engineers and related support staff.

4. Must be an innovative technology leader, dedicated to product innovation, technology leadership, quality, and value of the products.

5. Must be aggressive, driven to achieve results, and a motivational leader.

6. Must possess the ability to conceive varied applications for systems and generating ideas as well as concepts for new products.

7. Must have a proven track record of developing the staff and creating a team environment.

8. Experience, knowledge and familiarity with high tech, high speed electro-mechanical equipment, designing on CAD/SolidWorks software, manufacturing methods and operations, manufacturing engineering, assembly processes and the Microsoft Office Suite.

9. Lean Manufacturing Experience is a plus.


Primary Location/Schedule:

1. On-site: 1107 Springfield Road, Lebanon MO 65536

2. Full-time, 40 hours per week.

3. Flexibility on start/end time, but must have regular and predictable attendance.

4. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

5. Travel to customer sites as required.
