Director of Development
Reports To: VP of Advancement
Classification: Full-time - Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
This role will play a pivotal role in developing and executing strategies to maximize annual giving contributions while also overseeing the planning and execution of fundraising events. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in fundraising, donor engagement, and event management, along with exceptional leadership and communication skills.
Key objectives for success:
- Increase gift revenue
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 200 donors through each stage of the gift cycle
- Increase community awareness of and engagement with the mission of CCO
Duties and Responsibilities:
Fundraising Strategy:
- Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet organizational goals.
- Identify new funding opportunities and partnerships to diversify revenue streams.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in fundraising to ensure the organization remains innovative and competitive.
Donor Relations:
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing donors, ensuring their continued engagement and support.
- Identify and engage potential major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Oversee the creation of compelling materials and presentations to effectively communicate the organization's mission and impact.
Team Leadership:
- Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing development team.
- Provide guidance and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented culture.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and professional development opportunities for team members.
Campaign Management:
- Lead and coordinate fundraising campaigns, including annual giving, major gifts, and capital campaigns.
- Develop and execute strategic plans for each campaign, setting ambitious but achievable fundraising targets.
- Monitor and evaluate campaign progress, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure success.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Utilize data analytics to assess the effectiveness of fundraising strategies and make data-driven decisions.
- Prepare regular reports for senior leadership and the board, highlighting key performance metrics and fundraising outcomes.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other departments, such as program teams, to ensure alignment of fundraising efforts with organizational priorities.
- Represent the organization at events, conferences, and other networking opportunities to enhance its visibility and donor relationships.
- Collaborate with the Director of Communication to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all annual giving materials and event collateral.
Event Management:
- Assist the VP of Advancement with the planning, coordination, and execution of fundraising events, including but not limited to galas, auctions, donor receptions, and virtual events.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless event logistics, from venue selection to vendor management.
Budget Management:
- Develop and manage budgets for annual giving initiatives and fundraising events, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
Relationship Building:
- Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, volunteers, and partners to enhance the organization's visibility and support base.
Requirements:
- Passion for the organization's mission and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact.
- At least 3 years of work experience directly related to communication, marketing, non-profit management or any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact with donors, co-workers and guests from a variety of backgrounds.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communication, or a related field. Master’s preferred.
- Strong background in event management, with experience planning and executing successful fundraising events.
- Proficiency in utilizing data and analytics for decision-making.

- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able lift up to 20 lbs at times.
