Coordinator of Sports Strategies & Events
Greater Springfield Area Sports Commission

The Coordinator of Sports Strategies & Events plays a key role in promoting the Greater Springfield Area as a premier sporting destination, with the goal of maximizing the region’s economic impact through sports travel and tourism.

This position involves identifying sports organizations and events within the Greater Springfield, Missouri area that have the potential to attract out-of-area travelers and enhance Springfield’s visibility in the sports tourism industry. The Coordinator will be responsible for preparing and submitting bid proposals for events and assisting with all aspects of sports event planning and execution. This includes coordinating hotel accommodations for incoming events and ensuring agreements and communications are effectively managed.

In addition to event coordination, the Coordinator manages the Sports Commission’s membership program, including renewals and recruitment, and plays a critical role in raising organizational awareness. This includes planning and executing events such as the annual Sports Commission Awards, the Spring Fundraiser (BigShots Golf Challenge), and the Fall Fundraiser (Mini-Golf Championship).

The role also includes supporting digital initiatives such as maintaining the Sports Commission and Sports Commission Awards websites, developing and distributing a quarterly electronic newsletter, and overseeing the organization’s social media program to ensure engaging, consistent content. The Coordinator will also lead the Sports Commission internship program, helping develop young professionals in the industry.

Representation of the Sports Commission at trade shows and other relevant events is expected, with the intent of attracting new business and strengthening partnerships. The Coordinator will maintain strong relationships with local sports entities and clubs, stay informed about local facility and tourism assets, and remain adaptable to a flexible schedule based on event demands. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.


Education & Experience

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, sales, business, sports management, sports tourism, or a related field. A minimum of 1–2 years of experience in marketing, special events, sports, or sales is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in marketing material design, social media, and graphics, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail are essential. Familiarity with the amateur sports market and tourism industry, along with a willingness to travel, is also expected.


Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience.
